SHS SPEAKER SYSTEM
INSTALLED
The
Somers High School Drama Club is very proud to announce that the mission to
raise funds to enhance the SHS auditorium speaker system has been
accomplished! This effort was started
in the fall of 2004 and the speakers were installed during the holiday break in
December, 2005. The efforts raised
approximately $23,000 and are being used to purchase and professionally install
a Bose Speaker System, a gift to the school.
The auditorium is used not only by the Drama Club for their productions
but also by the Music Department in the school for concerts, the Mabelle B.
Avery Middle School play presentation, the local community theatre group, a
local dance company, town events (largest seating capacity in the town), and
many other events during the year. The
speaker system will benefit literally thousands of people over a given
year.
With
a history of providing improvements to the infrastructure at SHS, the Drama
Club contributed about 27% of the total through their own profits from show
productions, a dinner theatre and other fundraising events. Other major contributors include The Somers
Village Players, an Arts Grant from the State of Connecticut, The Music
Patrons, The Somers Education Foundation, The Savings Bank of Rockville, The
Somers Cultural Arts Commission, the SHS Class of 1999 as well as donations
from many individuals.
The
students and their advisor, Mrs. Kathy Welch, wish to thank all of the
contributors and all of our fund-raising supporters. We invite everyone to come in and “have a listen.”
