Sheehan Fallen By Tree
While riding his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle, 58-year-old Robert F.
Sheehan Jr. was killed in Deerfield yesterday morning after a massive
weeping willow tree fell on him. Sheehan, a veteran motorcycle enthusiast,
husband and father, was riding with two other friends in Deerfield on Mill
Village Road when the accident occurred just before 11 a.m. Sheehan was
operating the third motorcycle in a line of three when the 3-foot-wide tree
fell. "The tree appeared to be rotten, and the wind took it and him
down. The two other men he was with ran back to him to see if they
could help," said officer Don Bates. Rescue crews could not revive Sheehan
at the scene. "The second (cyclist) in line heard a crack," Bates said. "He
turned around and saw his friend underneath the tree." Sheehan Jr. was taken
to Franklin Medical Center in Springfield where he was pronounced dead on
arrival.
