Somers Junior Miss Elizabeth A. Doyker

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Junior Miss Pageant. It is a nationwide scholarship competition with a stringent criteria based on certain characteristics and talents which need to be exhibited by young women 17-18 years old. This year, Somers JM was Elizabeth A. Doyker, daughter of Donna and Al Doyker of Stafford Rd. She came in second runner-up for CT by winning the Health and Fitness scholarship ($250.00) as well as the Self Expression Scholarship ($250.00). The latter was a 2-part scholarship based on poise, stage presence and elegance as well as answering an unrehearsed question about current events. Past recipients include: Diane Sawyer, Cathy Lee Gifford, and Deborah Norville. A few years back, the pageant was in a precarious situation and would have been disbanded if not for the help and support of women like these
