RELAY FOR LIFE OF SOMERS 2008

The Relay For Life of Somers 2008 is an over night event designed to bring together those who have been touched by cancer. Participants honor cancer survivors, remember those who have been lost to cancer and raise money to further research to fight against cancer. Every dollar that is raised goes to The American Cancer Society to fight cancer in four main ways: research, education, advocacy and patient services

During the event, teams set up their sites at Pleasantview Golf Center. The sites are usually highly decorated and compete for "the best decorated site" prize. The members of each team take turns walking or running the laps all through the day and night keeping at least one member of the team on the track at all times. There are many activities and different entertainment to keep everyone having fun and help pass the time.

Last year Somers had 40 teams and raised over $80,000. This year we hope to have 45 teams and raise more.. We need you to join in this worthwhile event. This is a great way for the community to work together to fight cancer.

One of the most moving parts of this event is the Survivor's Lap. The cancer survivor's walk the first lap of the Relay with their caregivers and family members symbolizing the courage and hope displayed by each one. We invite any and all cancer survivor's to participate in this very healing way.
