What is SAVE ?

SAVE has been formed because we are disheartened by the constant diminishing standards in our educational system due to the lack of sufficient funding to keep pace with our town’s student population growth.  If the town continues to grow faster than the increases to the education budget, education levels will be degraded.  Here is some of what the future holds if our current complacency and apathy prevent us from supporting our education budget:

?Increased classroom sizes, e.g., no new teachers to accommodate expanding numbers of children from new families moving into town; elementary, middle, and high school classes exceeding maximum capacities

?Sports programs which will require soaring “pay to play” fees and eventually programs being eliminated

?Academic programs which will be reduced and/or cut, e.g., World Language, GATEWAYS gifted and talented, and other special programming

?Basic textbooks, materials, and supplies which will be reduced and/or lost

Each year, cuts and losses will be deeper and the losses will accumulate if we do not unite to support our school budget.  We have more growth and bigger projects ahead, specifically our school building expansion project.  Our group is seeking to educate, organize,  and energize concerned citizens to support educational initiatives now and in the future.

Let’s stand up for the “Excellence in Education” that we expect from Somers.  Your anticipated support is vital to our children’s future and the future of our town!
