Christian Education
The members of Somers Congregational Church consider Christian Education
to be a vital part of our life together and an important ministry. You are
invited to grow in faith and join in a program suitable for you. Please
contact the Christian Education Board or the Associate Pastor
for further information.
Church Library
The Church Library is located in Room 206. The library has nearly 500
items including fiction, nonfiction, children's books, videos as well as
books and music on tape and CD. The collection is a valuable resource for
both children and adults. A library table showing samples of what is
available is set up for display at coffee hour after worship service on the
second Sunday of each month. You may check out books anytime in room 206
(located next to the nursery).
Adult Education
Adult Education is offered several times during the week. On Tuesdays at noon, a discussion is held on the
lectionary readings for the week. On the first Tuesday evening of the month,
various books are discussed in a Book Club. Other opportunities are offered
throughout the year for small groups on a single time or short-term basis.
Care Room
A Care Room for children under three years old, located on the second
floor in room 204. Barbara Anderson is our Care Room Supervisor, assisted by
volunteers. The Care Room can be used at any time during the service. Any
usher will be happy to assist. Care is provided throughout the year.
Church School
In the classrooms in the Bugbee Center, we provide classes for children
from age three through the eighth grade. We use a curriculum from the Bible
Quest Publishers. It is a Bible story curriculum for all ages and grades.
The teaching of the overall story of the Bible as asking persons to live as
disciples of Jesus Christ is emphasized. Each session of Bible Quest is
tailored to the abilities and interests of each grade level. Volunteer
teachers and assistants teach the classes. The 3 and 4 year olds gather in
Room 111 on the lower level of the Bugbee Center. Children in Kindergarten
and older begin the morning at 10:00 am in the Sanctuary with their
families, and attend classes following a Children's Message from our
Associate Pastor. Classes are scheduled for individual grades
from September through early June. From the end of June through the months
of July and August, a broadly graded program is held following the same
schedule.

Youth Programs
The youth programs of the church have the titles of YAKS (Youth Action
Koinonia) & SCY (Somers Congregational Youth). YAKS is for students in
grades six through eight. SCY is our Senior High Youth Group (9th- 12th
grade). These groups meet together on various Sundays from 7:00 pm-8:30 pm.
Our Senior Pastor and Associate Pastor are the adult leaders. The groups
meet in the Youth Room (Room 211) or Room 213 during the school year. A
variety of programs and
activities are planned for the coming year.
Confirmation
The Rite of Confirmation is celebrated each spring. A formal Confirmation
Class, for High School Freshman, is held on Sunday evenings from September
through April. Our Senior Pastor and Associate Pastor lead the class
and the faith and history of the church are taught. The Confirmation Rite is
generally held on the last Sunday of April, during the 10:00 am worship
service.
