Somers Congregational Church
Special Events
Chocolate Chocolate Sale
The Chocolate Chocolate Sale has become a tradition for our church. It is
held on the Saturday closest to Valentine’s Day. The members and friends of
the congregation are asked to bake items that contain chocolate and these
are sold at a giant bake sale. The Foundation Room is decorated for
Valentine’s Day and a bake shop is open for eating chocolate treats on the
premises. Many good cooks are among our church family and all those
attending know that the baked goods will satisfy their "sweet tooth". See

Giant Tag Sale
The Giant Tag Sale is held in the early spring of each year. We accept
donations of used goods except clothing. All the profits of the Tag Sale go
toward the church operating budget and related projects. All goods are
sorted into categories and priced. Doors open at 8:30 am. Coffee and donuts
are also sold. See Upcoming Events or
Events of the Month for specific date and
time.
Ultimate Auction
On a Springtime Saturday, mid April - mid May, the Church holds its
annual Ultimate Auction. This is the biggest fundraiser of the year. Many
people are involved in making this a big success. Some of the items that are
auctioned are services that church members provide for others. Examples of
this are rides to the airport, yard work, catered meals, babysitting and
housekeeping. Art work, photography, and homemade craft items are popular
items which are bid upon. There is always interest in vacation homes donated
for several days, a weekend or a week long stay in beautiful settings.
Tickets to sports games, theaters, or races are also donated. Along with the
Auction, there is a Food Booth. See

Strawberry Luncheon
Strawberry Luncheon is held on a Tuesday during the local strawberry
season in June. Two weeks before this is to be held, notices and order forms
are sent out to businesses in town. They may order choice of three
sandwiches, chips, and, of course, a large fresh strawberry shortcake.
Lunches are delivered to the businesses at a time determined by them on the
day of the lunch. Orders can be picked up by individuals at the church
between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. The strawberries are locally grown and are
hulled and prepared by church members and friends. The Women’s Fellowship
bake all the biscuits for the shortcakes. A team of people prepare the
sandwich fillings, make the sandwiches and shortcakes. Another team of
people fill the lunch bags and deliver the meals. The next date of the
Luncheon is determined by the growing season for strawberries. See

Turkey Supper
On the first Saturday in November, our church has its annual Turkey
Supper. The menu is a harvest meal with: turkey, mashed potatoes, squash,
peas, rolls, and cranberry sauce. Dessert is a choice of home-made apple or
pumpkin pie. Beverages are also served. There are two settings, 5:00 pm and
6:30pm. Reservations are necessary for the meal. Reservations can also be
made for take-out meals. Take-ut meals may be picked up at 5:15 pm, 5:45 pm,
6:15 pm and 6:45 pm. Turkeys are cooked and carved by the Food Service
Department at Somers High School. All other preparation and serving are done
by church members and friends. This has become a very popular event and the
settings usually are sold out. The price of the dinner is $12.00 for adults
and $6.00 for children under 12. For more information, call the Church
Office at 763-4021. See Upcoming Events or
Events of the Month for specific date and
time.
Christmas Bazaar
The annual Christmas Bazaar is held on the first Saturday of December
from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The Church Building is transformed into a Christmas
setting with many workers busy offering different kinds of purchases for
your Christmas festivities. The Women’s Fellowship has one room of home-made
food, hand-made knitted goods, crafts and Christmas plants. There are other
rooms manned by the youth, food booths, and houseplants for sale. A limited
number of outside exhibitors have wares for sale. At 11:30 a delicious
lunch, open to the public, is served by the men of the church. A buffet of
casseroles, salads, beverages and desserts is the menu. Santa will be
present to welcome all! See Upcoming Events or
Events of the Month for specific date and
time.
