COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Meals on Wheels David Pinneys report stated that twelve families were being serviced for a total of 350 meals for the period of December 3 through December 29, 2007. $1,268 was paid to the Plaza Restaurant for the cost of the meals, $918 was billed to the clients, and $350 was subsidized by the town. $2500 was received from the Jahn Foundation, leaving a total of $6,021.14 in the MOW fund. David is still looking into the Area on Aging for future help but this has turned out to be a very complicated process.
Senior Lunches Arlene Yarnes stated there would be no further lunches until February.
Senior Citizens Club Arlene Yarnes related that the holiday party was held on the 19th. Many donated gifts will be given out. Much cooperation has been received from the members for helping to put up and take down decorations as well as setting up for the lunches. Their appreciation is much appreciated.
Communications It is hoped that Barbara Flebotte will be taking over the newsletter in the near future. She has done a wonderful job on this endeavor in the past. It is hoped that Dave Pinney will appoint Barbara to this commission as well. It is also hoped that a better way can be found to print the volume of letters needed. Perhaps the prison could be a source for this endeavor. More on this in the future.
Senior Center Sign Donna Doyker was not at this meeting.
School Liaison Donna Doyker was not at this meeting.
Senior Support Services Pat Bachetti
was not present at this meeting.
OLD BUSINESS:
Recognition of Meals on Wheels Drivers A form of recognition for the MOW drivers was their inclusion in a holiday party held for town employees. This was much appreciated by the volunteer drivers. Jim suggested perhaps a lunch could be offered to these drivers at the senior center at a future date.
Meals on Wheels Report Information on this report stated above. Sue King stated that all seems to be going well at the present time.
Communications Opening Please see data stated under Communications above.
NEW
BUSINESS:
Somers Code 5-17 This code states that the board shall consist of nine members. We currently have eight. It is hoped that Barbara Flebotte will fill the ninth position. Sue King was also mentioned as being added to this board. Sue, however, is happy being a guest at our meetings and offering her input wherever she can. In addition, Jim wanted to be sure that we, as a commission, are fulfilling our duties in accordance with this charter. Are we operating the way the selectmen expect us to? Dave Pinney said we had made some changes previously that he needs to present to the selectmen for their acceptance. This is a subject that may have to be reviewed from time to time.
COMMENTS:
Letters have been sent to commission members asking if they are interested in reappointment to this commission. Once acceptance takes place, reappointment letters will be sent out to the members of the commission.
ADJOURNMENT: Adjournment at 12:00 by motion of Dottie Hillman and seconded by Arlene Yarnes.
Respectfully submitted,
Elaine L. Bemont, Secretary
