The board of fire commissioners is responsible for:
1. financial management of town funds used by the fire department.
2. supervision and care of town apparatus, buildings and equipment used by the
fire department.
3. set specifications to be followed in purchasing apparatus, equipment and
supplies by the fire department.
4. approving the election of the fire chief as recommended by the volunteer fire
department and the chief is responsible for the emergency operation of the fire
department as prescribed by the Connecticut General Statutes.
5. appointing the fire marshal, fire investigator and arson investigator and
making its recommendations to the board of selectmen for confirmation.
This board consists of five members each serving a three year term with powers
and duties as prescribed by town ordinance. The board of selectmen appoints all
fire commissioners.
