October 24, 2002

Ex-Officio: B.Boutwell, K.Klein, J.MacFeat, T.Jefferson
(9pm)
Others: T.Geib, E.Allsup, D.Moser (9pm)
The meeting was called to
order at 7:35p.m. by J.Formeister.
Minutes of the October 10,
2002 meeting were approved unanimously as
presented (Pinney, O;Brien).
It was moved (Cowles),
seconded (Butler), and unanimously approved to
amend the order of the
agenda.
The timeline of events was
discussed. Since the Rotary Club
presentation will have to be
11/19, the night of our second public
hearing, J.O'Brien and
J.Butler will attend so T.Jefferson can be at the
hearing. J.Butler will do an update of the timeline.
Second mailer: T.Cowles worked up a second mailer with
input from
T.Jefferson and
D.Moser. Changes proposed by members of
S.A.V..E. and
some rewording were
discussed. T.Cowles will finish the
revised version
over the weekend and it will
go to the Town Attorney Monday for
approval.
Updated enrollment projections
were recently received from the state
Dept. of Ed. They were discussed, noting that projections
are higher
than those from
12/2001.
Bills were approved
unanimously (Pinney, Cowles) as follows:
invoice#0012803, 9/30/02,
Moser Pilon Nelson, for $11,016.81 (Phase 1
$8450, MBA $2175, misc.
reimbursables $391.81),
Invoice#25957, 10/17/02,
Minuteman Press, for $409.16.
There was brief discussion
of the referendum questions. A motion
was
made (Pinney), seconded
(Cowles), and unanimously approved to send a
letter to the Board of
Selectmen with the committee's recommendation
that there be three
questions at the referendum.
P.Roland gave a brief report
on the meeting with the Planning
Commission. That commission does not have to approve the
proposed
building project before
referendum. The project must be
compatible with
the Town Plan of
Development, and it must have approval for planning
issues.
There will be a meeting of
the panel that will speak and answer
questions at the public
hearings, D.Moser, P.Roland, T.Jefferson, and
D.Pinney. Any questions that members or S.A.V.E. have should be
forwarded to B.Boutwell.
The meeting in Hartford
concerning a megalibrary in Somers determined
that this concept is not
feasible, so the issue has been dropped.
Motion to adjourn at
9:30p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Joan Formeister, Secretary.
