FIRE COMMISSIONERS

REGULAR MEETING

THURSDAY November 21, 2002

 

 

CALL TO ORDER:                                     The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Bob McCulloch

Members Present:                                              Bob McCulloch, David Palmer, Alice Van Tasel, and

                                                                        Carl Rohrbach

 

Absent:                                                           Tony Bruno

 

Others Present:                                              Fire Chief Bill Meier, Tom Mehl and Bob Sciaretta

 

MINUTES APPROVAL:                                    On a motion by Mr. Rohrbach, seconded by Mr. Palmer 

the minutes of the September 19, 2002 were unanimously approved.

 

AUDIENCE COMMENTS:                                   None

           

FIRE MARSHAL:                                       No Report

 

REVIEW FIRE DEPT. SPENDING:            Fire Departments spending is on budget with the exception of Vehicle Maintenance and the Overtime Salary accounts.

 

FIRE CHIEF:                                                 Chief Meier reported that 4 out of the 5 new fire hydrants
have been installed and are working.  One dry hydrant will be installed at the golf course pond on Billings road.
Chief Meier and paid Fire Fighter Supervisor Bob Sciaretta
will meet with school officials to review the school’s emergency plan.

 

C.I.P. REVIEW            Chief Meier reviewed the Fire Department’s Capital Project Request with the members of the Commission.

                                                                        On a motion by Mr. Rohrbach, seconded by Mrs. Van Tasel the Fire Departments C.I.P. request for $35,000.00 to replace Bunker Gear was unanimously approved.

 

NEW BUSINESS:            Alice Van Tasel was appointed by the Selectmen to fill the unexpired term of Cathy Hilton.  Welcome Alice.

                                                                        The Commission requested Chief Meier not to use the paid Fire Fighters to fill the weekend Ambulance shifts that are normally covered by the volunteers.  The paid Fire Fighters overtime budget is already 78% expended.

The Chief said that there are times the Ambulance will have to be put out of service because volunteers are not always available on weekends.

The Commission reiterated to the Chief that the Fire Department could not spend money they do not have.

                                                                                   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ADJOURNMENT:            A motion to adjourn was made at 8:20 pm by Mr. Rohrbach , seconded by Alice Van Tasel and approved unanimously.  The next meeting will be Thursday, December 19, 2002 at 7:00 pm at the Fire House.
