COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Meals on Wheels – As of 10/31/03, the savings account balance was $9575.43 after withdrawal of $600.  Checking account balance was $863.94 after deposits of $1567.50 and disbursements of $1558.50.  Thirteen clients were served 380 meals with a subsidized amount of $474.50 for the period of 10/6/03 to 11/1/03.

Senior Center – Ray Trask reported things are running smoothly.  He would like to see more people attending the Tuesday morning coffee/donut social.  Perhaps this event will be advertised more.

Senior Lunches – Arlene Yarnes reported that the last luncheon was on October 24th at the Baptist Church and was well attended.  There will be no more lunches until February 24, 2004 due to the holiday/winter season.

Trips – Copy of planned travel events attached.

OLD BUSINESS:

Municipal Agent Budget - Allotment of $9562.  Nearly 1/3 of this money is spent on electricity for Senior Center Building.

Advisory Board Members Representation - Consists of nine members serving a one year term.

Future Programs – Elaine Friedman is checking out the possibility of someone from Cassandra’s to speak on natural herbs vs. medical treatments.  Elaine also would like to see the Advisory Board have its own Sunshine Club to send cards for illness, death, etc.

NEW BUSINESS:

Open Hours of Senior Center – A discussion arose about having the hours of the Center extended from 8 to 4 rather than 8 to noon.  The time could be covered by coordinating the hours of the municipal agent and his assistant so there would be coverage in the building for the necessary hours.  This is needed to handle phone calls, visitors, etc.

Closing of Senior Center on Holidays – Should the Center be open on Columbus Day, Veterans Day, etc.?  Ray Trask will bring up subject at monthly potluck to see what holidays members feel the Center should be available for various activities.

Meeting Attendance – Attendance has been poor.  Please let Jim Burgess know if you are unable to attend.

COMMENTS:

Somers Senior Center vs. Somers Senior Center Club – The Municipal Agent is in charge of the Somers Senior Center.  The Club is responsible for activities that take place at the Senior Center.  There is confusion over the word “club”.

December Christmas Party – 108 have signed up for this event.

ADJOURNMENT:  Meeting was adjourned at 2:08 P.M. by motion of Arlene Yarnes and seconded by Norma Keeney.

Respectfully submitted,

Elaine L. Bemont, Secretary
