Senior Lunches – Arlene Yarnes reported that the next luncheon will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at the Congregational Church in Somers.
Trips – Bus trips/bus and show trips are planned for Mohegan Sun Casino on April 1 and June 14, 2004. April 1 show is Michael Amante and June 14 will be Vicki Lawrence and Mamma. Plans are now in motion to see Frankie Avalon at Foxwoods on Thursday, May 20, 2004 and Prima Vera – a Tribute to Louis Prima and Keely Smith on Thursday, November 18, 2004. Gift cards are available for any of these events.
OLD BUSINESS:
Holiday Closings – It was determined that is not necessary to have the Senior Center closed on most holidays. There are enough people with keys that can conduct their usual activities if they chose to do so.
Municipal Agent Budget – Allotment of $9562 is used for Senior Center expenses only such as for the cost of electricity and heat. New budget needs to be presented to the Selectman by February 6, 2004. Question arose as to how much federal or state money the town gets for use by its seniors and how this money is currently being spent.
NEW BUSINESS:
Advisory Board Sunshine Club – A decision was made that there currently is a Somers Senior Center Sunshine Club and it was not necessary to have an Advisory Board Sunshine club as well.
COMMENTS:
Each member of the Advisory Board received a letter from First Selectman David Pinney confirming their membership for a one year period.
Next meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at
1:00.
ADJOURNMENT: Meeting was adjourned at 1:58 P.M. by motion of Norma Keeney and seconded by Arlene Yarnes.
Respectfully submitted,
Elaine L. Bemont, Secretary
