COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Meals on Wheels As of 4/30/04, the savings account balance was
$10,410.32 after a withdrawal of $1,000.00.. Checking account balance was $1,781.22
after deposits of $1,348.00 and disbursements of $1,956.00. Seventeen clients were served 492 meals
with a subsidized amount of $548.00 for the period of 4/1/04 through
4/30/04. The head of Meals on
Wheels is looking for money for a dinner to honor the drivers that deliver these
meals to our elderly.
Senior Lunches Arlene Yarnes reported that the last dinner of the current season will be at the Somers High School on Tuesday, May 25, 2004. A maximum of sixty people can attend. Parking will be a problem due to construction at the high school. Sign-up sheet will be available at the senior center. The senior bus will run two trips to the high school to help alleviate parking problems.
Trips Bus trip/bus and show trip is planned for Mohegan Sun Casino on June 14, 2004. Show will be with Viki Lawrence as Mama. Foxwoods trips are scheduled for May 20 and July 19. Anyone interested in signing up should contact Jennifer at the Recreation Department.
A trip is being planned for the New Hampshire Lakes and Mountains on September 8 and 9, 2004 in conjunction with the Somers Recreation Department.
Clarification needs to be made regarding trips and money for the senior center club and the recreation department.
OLD BUSINESS:
Establish Committee for 2005 Anniversary A committee will be formed to handle the 15th anniversary of the Senior Center. The Senior Advisory Board will be happy to work with the Executive Committee on this event.
Replacement for Leone Lakonski Sandy Fales would be a willing replacement but her paper route hours would not make this convenient. Jim Burgess and Tony Pelligrino will continue to work on a replacement.
NEW BUSINESS:
Municipal Agent Budget Members of the Senior Advisory Board will work with the Municipal Agent on this task. Suggestion was made to present copy of budget monthly. We should invite Treasurer Ed Sullivan to a future meeting (perhaps in September) to explain some of the finances available for our seniors, any grant options available, etc.
Tax Relief for Seniors Forms are available in Municipal Agents office. Deadline is May 14th for turning these in.
Municipal Agent Hours Summer hours for the Municipal Agent will be Monday through Friday 10:00 to 2:00. First Selectman David Pinney and Advisory Board members are in agreement of this.
COMMENTS:
There are no planned Advisory Board meetings for the months of July and August.
Meals on Wheels should be advertised in our Senior Newsletter.
Newsletter should be reviewed by Municipal Agent before going to printing.
Picnic will be scheduled sometime during the summer months.
Better blending of talents, skills and resources needed between the Advisory Board, First Selectman, Executive Board, Recreation Dept. etc. It is our goal to be helpful and cooperative with these various groups.
Much interest was shown in what is happening with the Civil Preparedness Agency in town. It was suggested that Joseph Tolisano, an interested participant in this group, be invited to attend our June meeting. The secretary will send him a letter of invitation.
ADJOURNMENT: Adjournment at 2:08 P.M. by motion of Doris Randall and seconded by Arlene Yarnes.
Respectfully submitted,
Elaine L. Bemont, Secretary
