COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Meals on Wheels – As of 5/31/04, the savings account balance was $9,914.83 after a withdrawal of $500.00.  Checking account balance was $1,763.22 after deposits of $1,838 and disbursements of $1,856.  Eighteen clients were served 459 meals with a subsidized amount of $527 for the period of 5/1/04 though 5/31/04.

Senior Center – Myrtle Pixley reported a profit was realized of approximately $700 from the bake sale and flower sale.  Picnics for the seniors would be held on July 10 at noon and July 24 from 11:00 to 5:00.  Benches are going to be purchased in memory of Marguerite Douliard and will be installed on the senior center grounds.  A senior prom is scheduled for June11 at the middle school.  Attendance appears to be low.  A water purifier has been donated to the center and will be installed in the small sink for better tasting drinking water.  The Executive Board will look into the possibility of leaving the door to the club office unlocked so those people having business in there will be able to enter.

Senior Lunches – Arlene Yarnes reported that the Somers Woman’s Club may hold their luncheon in April rather than September.  She is still working on a possibility of another sponsor for the month of September.

Trips – Bus trip/bus and show trip is planned for Mohegan Sun Casino on June 14, 2004.  Show will be with Viki Lawrence as Mama.  Foxwoods trip is scheduled for July 19.   Anyone interested in signing up should contact Jennifer at the Recreation Department.

A trip is being planned for the New Hampshire Lakes and Mountains on September 8 and 9, 2004 by the Somers Recreation Department.

Clarification was made regarding finances for trips sponsored by the senior center and the recreation department.  Future trips will only be done by the recreation department and this should take away this concern.

Advisory Board – Municipal Agent is still working on a replacement for Leone Lakonski.  A motion was made by Arlene Yarnes and seconded by Alice D’Arcy to advise First Selectman David Pinney to accept the resignation of Pat Broer per her letter.  It was also suggested that the president of the Somers Center Senior Club should be a member of the Advisory Board.

OLD BUSINESS:

Municipal Agent Budget – Advisory Board will work on budget with Municipal Agent in September.

VNA – A contract was signed with Vernon Health to provide benefits to the seniors in Somers.  Screenings may need to be done bi-weekly rather than weekly.

Bus Appointments – Municipal agent will take appointments for seniors who wish to use the bus.  Bus will be available for two upcoming picnics being held on Saturdays.
