FIRE COMMISSION

REGULAR MEETING MINUTES

Thursday August 19, 2004

 

CALL TO ORDER:         Carl Rohrbach called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Members Present:         Alice Van Tasel, Frank Lawlor and Carl Rohrbach

Members Absent:          Tony Bruno, Dave Palmer, Jr

Others Present:             First Selectman Dave Pinney, Fire Chief Bill Meier

None

 

CORRESPONDENCE

Received letter from Somers Firefighters Union Local 4284  

 

FIRE COMMISSION ORDINANCE COMMENTS:

Mr. Pinney said that the Town attorney had not completed his review and the Board of Selectmen have not discussed the Fire Commission’s revisions the ordinance.

 

FIRE MARSHAL:

·         We will ask to be put on the September 27 Board of Finance agenda to request funds for the installation of the hydrant at the intersection Route 83 and Field Road.

·         A motion by Mrs. Van Tasel, seconded by Mr. Lawlor to approve payment for the Fire Marshal activities for the period from 6/13/04 through 6/26/04 and the period from 7/11/04 through 8/7/04 passed unanimously.

 

FIRE CHIEF 

·         Mr. Pinney will talk to officials from surrounding towns that seem to be getting around the Garcia Act using volunteer firefighters as part time firefighters while maintaining volunteer status.

·         The installed insulation appears to be consistent with insulation requirements specified on the fire house plans.  Suggestion was made to bring in expert to estimate insulation needs and cost to provide a more uniform temperature within the fire house and prevent re-occurrence of burst pipes experienced during the past two winters.

·         Town attorney and Crown Castle’s attorney continue to talk about installation of the radio antennas on the cell.

 

BUDGET REVIEW:

The overall 2004/2005 fire service budgets appears to be on track.

None

 

ADJOURNMENT:

A motion to adjourn was made at 8:15 p.m. by Mrs. Van Tasel, seconded by Mr. Lawlor and passed unanimously.  The next regular meeting is September 16, 2004 at 7 pm at the Somers Fire House.
