The meeting
was called to order at 7:34pm by Chairman Roland, who commented on a great
opening day of school and cooperation of all involved, especially Jim MacFeat’s
staff, and that the projects are going well, on time, and on budget.
Minutes of
the August 26, 2004 meeting were approved unanimously as presented (Klein,
Butler). We will get clarification from
All-Phase regarding change orders brought up at the 9/7 site meeting.
SHS---Report
for 9-5 from E.Zahner was distributed.
Discussion about IMTL bills, which he has been working on with the
testing company, no change in testing firm yet.
Update from
B.Boutwell on expenses to date with handout.
D.Moser
discussed the list of change orders and distributed a copy of the construction
schedule. Discussion followed
concerning delays, keeping to timeline, subs not showing up, etc. Request for baselines on schedules from All-Phase.
Lockers---same
color as existing ones, what color to put in strip across top? Motion approved
for color sub-committee to convene and make decision (Butler, Broer).
T.Jefferson
is in discussions regarding furniture and possibility of prisoners making some
for cost savings. David Wedge at SFU
stated items under $10,000 do not have to go out to bid; T.Jefferson will get clarification of this
statement.
SES---Report
for 9-5 from E.Zahner was discussed.
Request to have electric and water lines that weren’t on plans put on
as-builts for the future, since two (not on drawings) have already been hit.
Asbestos
abatement report was presented; there is some around piping in old locker room.
Update from
B.Boutwell on expenses to date with handout.
List of pending
change orders from D.Moser followed by discussion.
Access to
fire hydrant in back of school---$3689 to tie into paved play area from SHS
side of building. To use existing road
along side of school, extending with curved loop, adding two inches topping,
12-foot roadway, preferred by Fire Marshall, price about the same. A motion was made (Butler), seconded
(Broer), and unanimously approved to go with the latter, SKC2A and B options as
presented, not to exceed $3689, pending final review and recommendation by MPN
.
Special
inspections---A motion was made, seconded, and unanimously approved (Butler,
Cowles) to hire Macchi Engineers for $5000 for special inspections.
Cafeteria---D.Moser
presented drawings of Option A, “4 bay” for $195,000 and Option B, “3 bay” for
$175,000. B is 25% smaller and
electrical lines would not have to be moved, but it is only $20,000 less. D.Moser will ask Enfield Builders to re-work
their figures.
Copy of
schedule distributed.
MBA---Committee
will hold a special meeting 10/14/04 at 7:30pm to approve final plans.
T.Jefferson
met with MBA staff and reviewed phasing plans.
Suggestion to invite Ellington administrators in the spring to explain
to staff how they handled their renovation process.
Discussion
of student drop-off area in front of school and staff parking behind school at
beginning of construction, as discussed at meeting with administrators, bus
company, J.MacFeat. Town road crew,
which has been very helpful and cooperative during construction project, has
already begun preparing roadway to back of school. Kitchen meeting minutes from 9/21/04 were distributed and
discussed .

Cost Estimate list was distributed.
