                   RECREATION COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING MINUTES

                                        Monday, 7:00 PM, March 7, 2005

                                            Recreation Office-Town Hall

 

I.          CALL TO ORDER: At 7:05 PM by Tom Chilicki.

 

MEMBERS PRESENT: Tom Chilicki, Ed Palomba, Alan Walker, JJ Wassmuth

 

            MEMBERS ABSENT: Betty Schuler, Geoff Elia

 

            MEMBERS LATE: John Bartolf

 

NON-MEMBERS PRESENT: None.

 

lI.            MINUTES OF LAST MEETING: The commission approved the February 7, 2005 regular meeting minutes by a unanimous 4-0 vote.

 

lll.            AUDIENCE: None. 

 

lV.            BILLS/PURCHASES: None.

 

V.            REPORTS:

 

A.     Park: Jen Charette will coordinate with Mike Provencher on the following issues: park clean-up, ice rink(s) closing, soccer light poles, park gazebo, volleyball lights, and fixing pot holes. No discussion was held on the commission’s role with the parks maintenance department.

 

B.    Budget: The current budget was reviewed with Jen Charette. Jen will schedule (2) more family shows.

 

C.    Self Support Budget: Tom Chilicki updated the commission on his meeting with the BOS regarding the self-support financials. There is no update on status on transferring past self-support funds to the recreation department.

 

Vl.       OLD BUSINESS:

 

A.     Fields/Facilities: The fence CIP committee will attempt to meet as soon as weather permits. Discussion was held on clay for the (3) softball fields at the park and a backstop for the baseball instructional field.

 

 

B.    Budget and CIP: The commission discussed the changes proposed to

the 2005-06 recreation budget. The commission would like to keep the          line item “Youth Services” for more specific youth projects, and not change the line item to “Maintenance Services”.

 

C.    Summer Basketball Camps: Discussion was held on gymnasium permits.

 

D.    Somers Soccer Association Lights: JJ Wassmuth informed the commission that the SSA has sold their soccer lights.

 

E.     Somers Basketball Association-Repayment of Debt: Completed and deposited into general fund.

 

F.     Sports Associations Budgets: Tom Chilicki will follow-up with the Somers Lacrosse Association and Women’s Volleyball per last meeting minutes.

 

VII.      NEW BUSINESS:

 

A.     Board of Selectman: None.

 

VIII.            COORDINATOR'S REPORT: Jen Charette updated the commission on the April flier and work at Kibbe Fuller.

 

IX.            OTHER: The summer camp committee will be formed at the next meeting, and Jen Charette will begin a search for a new comp director. Discussion was held on Betty Schuller’s 2/23/05 email regarding her resignation from the commission.

 

X.             CORRESPONDENCE:

1.         3/5/05 Letter from First Selectman David Pinney regarding the 2005-06 recreation budget.

2.         2/18/05 Letter from Rev. David P. Choquette from All Saints Parish regarding the donation for the Children’s Valentines’ Day party.

 

XI.            ADJOURNMENT: The commission adjourned at 8:15 PM.
