Senior Lunches – Arlene Yarnes reported that the next luncheon planned by the Advisory Board will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at the Somersville Congregational Church. Sixty-one seniors are currently signed up for this dinner. The April dinner will be sponsored by the Somers Woman’s Club and will be held at the Somers Congregational Church on April 26th. The May luncheon will be held at the High School but the date is not yet available.
Communications/Senior Newsletter – Barbara Flebotte reported the Somers Seniors news will be published in the Journal Inquirer once a month with an allowance of up to 700 words. News has to be in their hands two weeks before the end of the month and will be published as space is available.
The newsletter is run off by Town Hall personnel. Help is needed to fold this newsletter twice, label it and sort it by mailing codes. A suggestion was made that perhaps the Beta Club of Somers High would be interested in assisting with this operation as part of their community service project.
OLD BUSINESS:
Beautification Project at Somers Senior Center – the Beautification Committee of Somers is interested in helping to beautify the senior center grounds in the spring. This will be in addition to shrubs, etc. currently being considered for planting by the Somers Senior Citizens Club.
Resource Service Guide – This guide is now at the Town Hall waiting for final approval. After approval the Guide will become available for pick-up by seniors but will not be mailed out due to high cost of postage.
NEW BUSINESS:
Newsletter Assistance – Current newsletter is mailed out to the seniors in town and is also placed at various locations for pickup by those interested in reading it. Help is always needed in getting this prepared for mailing, etc.
Alice D’Arcy Replacement – Alice will be resigning from the board due to poor health. Replacement may be made by First Selectman. If anyone knows of someone who would be interested in replacing her, please let Jim Burgess know.
Advisory Board Responsibilities – Jim passed out a Policy Statement to the members. More clarification is needed by the First Selectman as to what our duties are.
COMMENTS:
The Somers Fire Department will be sponsoring a Food Safety
Seminar on March 29th.
Seminar will last about one hour and will be held at 7:00. Information will be available as to the
proper storage temperature of food, how long food lasts, etc. Seminar is open to the public.
ADJOURNMENT: Adjournment at 2:00 P.M. by motion of Elaine Bemont and seconded by Arlene Yarnes..
Respectfully submitted,
Elaine L. Bemont, Secretary
