SENIOR ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES OF MAY 10, 2005
MEETING
CALL TO ORDER: Meeting called to order at 1:05 P.M. by Jim Burgess.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Pat Bachetti, Elaine Bemont, Jim Burgess, Barbara Flebotte and Dorothy Hillman,
MEMBERS ABSENT: Donna Doyker, Myrtle Pixley and Arlene Yarnes.
VISITOR(S): First Selectman David Pinney
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of April 12, 2005 meeting accepted by Pat Bachetti and seconded by Barbara Flebotte.
CORRESPONDENCE: Letter of resignation received from Alice Marie D’Arcy.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Meals on Wheels – As of 4/30/05, the savings account balance was
$9,966.06 with a withdrawal of $500.00 this month. Checking account balance was $1,600.90 after deposits of
$1,937.00 and disbursements of $2,107.00.
Fifteen clients were served 390 meals with a subsidized amount of
$424.00 for the period of 4/1/05 though 4/30/05. There was an “account analysis fee” of $13.81 in question. Maria Zoto is checking out.
Senior Center – No representation for the Senior Center this month.
Senior Lunches – The May luncheon (the 17th) at the High School is filled to capacity.
Communications/Senior Newsletter – Barbara Flebotte reported the Somers Seniors news is now being published in the Journal Inquirer, the North Central News on an availability basis, and on Somersnow.com. Mr. Jefferson, Supt. of Schools in Somers, hopes to initiate greater communication between the seniors and the schools. He is trying to set up liaison people to work on this matter. Barbara was congratulated on a job well done in trying to bring the news to all our seniors. Some newsletter funding issues have arisen but Mr. Pinney assured the board members that the funds will be there for the mailings.
OLD BUSINESS:
Subject of holding Advisory Board meetings in July and August was discussed. Members present were agreeable to attending. Matter will be discussed further at the June meeting.
Duties of advisory board members were also discussed. More discussion needs to be held on this issue. Members are asked to think of questions to be put into a survey form as to what services, etc. they would like to see addressed. Some issues mentioned included tax relief, veteran benefits, social security issues, prescription issues, etc.
Replacement is needed for former member Alice D’Arcy. If someone you know is interested in this position, please let First Selectman Pinney or Jim Burgess know.
NEW BUSINESS:
Assistance is needed from the Board members with agenda items for future meetings. Let Jim know at least 10 days in advance if you know of an issue in need of discussion.
Further discussions will be held on duties of the advisory board members.
COMMENTS:
Enfield Senior Center recently held an open house. Any out-of-town members are welcome to the events held at the Enfield Senior Center on a space availability basis.
