COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Meals on Wheels – No report available for the month of October.  First Selectman David Pinney would have this information.

Senior Center – President Joan Sizer was not at meeting.  Myrtle wanted it made known that any articles she presented to newsletter editor did, in fact, get published.

Senior Lunches – Arlene Yarnes reported that sixty-two people attended the luncheon at the Baptist Church.  Next luncheon will be held in February at the Somers Congregational Church.

Communications/Senior Newsletter – Barbara Flebotte has agreed to continue with the preparation of the newsletter.  Once the letter is run off at the Town Hall, it will be up to the Advisory Board members to finish the distribution process.  There will be a holiday newsletter coming out mid-November which will carry all the information for the months of November and December.

Senior Center Sign – Bushes have been trimmed around the sign.  Sign messages need to be updated.

Senior Support Services – Pat Bachetti and Jim Burgess will meet after today’s meeting on this issue.

Tax Program – Donna Doyker was not available today to fill us in on this.

School Liaison – Myrtle Pixley was not aware that she was part of this.

OLD BUSINESS:

Flu Clinic – Flu clinic was a huge success.  382 shots were given out.  Only problem for the day was the parking.

Medicare Part D – Speakers here on October 26th from UCONN and the Department on Aging were very informative.  Many people took advantage of the opportunity to listen to all the upcoming changes.

NEW BUSINESS:

Senior Bus – A new senior bus has been ordered and should be available shortly.  We have the opportunity of keeping the old bus if we wish to.

Other - Pat Bachetti would like to see the Advisory Board sponsor a program at the Senior Center to try to attract new seniors to the Center.  Board members were asked to think of some programs that might be considered for this activity.

COMMENTS:

A new copier has been purchased and will be installed shortly.  This is a much-needed item for this facility.

There will be programs at the Stafford Senior Center on Medicare Part D from November 16 through December 21.   These will be held at 9:30 in the morning.  Somers seniors are welcome to attend any of these sessions.

Jim Burgess asked if any of the Advisory Board members had been sworn in.  We all said the only official notice we had as board members was a letter of appointment.

ADJOURNMENT:  Adjournment at 1:25 P.M. by motion of Arlene Yarnes and seconded by Pat Bachetti.

Respectfully submitted,

Elaine L. Bemont, Secretary
