EDC Minutes

November 7, 2005

Selectmen’s Conference Room

Call to Order

 

Chairman Louis Bachetti called the meeting to order at 7:09 p.m.

 

Attendance

 

Members present were Louis Bachetti, David Reed, Robert Schmidt, and Richard Cheney.  Absent were Ed Jekot, Ron Elliott, and Maura Gardiner.

 

Approval of Minutes

 

Motion by David Reed and seconded by Richard Cheney that the minutes of the October 3, 2005 meeting be approved without change.  The motion passed.  Voting in favor of the motion were Lou Bachetti, Robert Schmidt, David Reed, and Richard Cheney.

 

Correspondence

 

Chairman Bachetti reminded EDC members to read the CRCOG minutes.

 

Committee Reports

 

 

A.    Business & Industry – Mr. Cheney reported that the EDC business questionnaire had been mailed and responses are coming in.  David Reed and Lou Bachetti will hand deliver questionnaires to new businesses in town.  Mr. Bachetti and Mr. Cheney will summarize the information gathered from the survey and bring it to the December meeting.

 

Tourism Development Discussion

    

 

The Selectmen have received a copy of the EDC tourism proposal prepared by David Reed.  The EDC is waiting for a response.

 

Business Development

 

EDC members Reed and Bachetti will meet with businesses owners from Enfield about possibly locating in Somers.

 

Joint Meeting between Planning, Zoning, & EDC

 

            Mr. Bachetti will send some possible agenda items to Ms. Carson.

 

          Suggested items:

 

1.    EDC initiative to help local business and industry – Rick Cheney

2.    Tourism initiative – David Reed

3.    EDC & Planning of Conservation and Development – Lou Bachetti

 

           

Chairman’s Report – Lou Bachetti

 

Agenda items for December 6, 2005 meeting:

 

1.    Establish 2006 meeting calendar

2.    Elect Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the EDC

3.    Set EDC goals and objectives for 2006

 

Adjournment

 

Motion to adjourn was made by David Reed, seconded by Richard Cheney and was unanimously approved.  The meeting was officially adjourned at 7:45.
