Design Review Study Committee Meeting

I. Call to order

 

Meeting was called to order by Chairman David Reed At 7pm at the Kibbe Fuller Building

 

Chairman David Reed called the meeting to order at 7:04 pm Members present were; Anita Calder, Jill Conklin, Rick McCullough, Greg Genlot, Joe Iadarola and David Reed.

 

Guests present were; Patrice Carson Somers Town Planner and Philip Chester Suffield Town Planner

 

II. Minutes approval

 

The minutes from the October 25, 2005 meeting were approved.

 

III. Discussion

 

Philip Chester provided a copy of the Suffield Zoning regulations for the Town Center Village District Design Review Board and the West Suffield Center Village District Zone. He discussed the two design boards; Suffield and West Suffield as being part of their zoning regulations and enforceable by the Zoning enforcement officer.

 

The purpose of these zoning districts is to allow for integrated commercial development to meet the shopping and service needs of the town and encourages diversity and mix of uses while preserving and enhancing the distinctive character, landscape, and historic structures within the district. The intent to encourage the conversion, conservation, and preservation of exiting buildings and sites to maintain the historic and unique character of the district; to encourage revitalization and compatible new development; promote a mix of land uses; promote a pedestrian-oriented environment.

 

In both districts, the commission shall consider the standards set forth in the “Connecticut Historical Commission- The Secretary of the Interior Standards for Rehabilitation and Guidelines for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings”

 

IV Adjournment

At 8:48 pm Joe Iadarola  made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Anita Calder.   Motion carried unanimously.
