DECEMBER 5, 2005

Selectmen’s Conference Room

Town Hall

Call to Order

Chairman Lou Bachetti called the meeting to order at 7:06 p.m.

Lou appointed Mr.Ron Elliott, currently an alternate to the commission, to be seated to fill a vacancy at the meeting.

Attendance

Members present were Louis Bachetti, Maura Gardiner, Robert Schmidt, Richard Cheney and Ron Elliott. Ed Jekot and David Reed were absent.

Approval of Minutes

Motion by Maura Gardiner and seconded by Robert Schmidt that the minutes of the November 7, 2005 meeting be approved without change. The motion passed. Voting in favor of the motion were Lou Bachetti, Robert Schmidt, and Maura Gardiner.

Correspondence

The chairman noted that he had received notification from member, David Reed that he would not be in attendance.

Committee Reports:

Planning Commission Liaison Committee

There was nothing to report at this time.

Supporting Local Business and Industry

Rich Cheney reported that approximately 40 business survey forms had been returned and the results and comments associated with the survey form will be presented and reviewed at the next scheduled meeting.

Tourism Development

There was nothing to report at this time.

Business Development

There was nothing to report at this time.

2006 Meeting Dates

The schedule for meeting dates for 2006 was presented and approved by the members present. Please see attachment.

Election of EDC Vice Chairman

Lou Bachetti made a motion to nominate David Reed for the position of Vice Chairman. The motion was seconded by Maura Gardiner and approved by all members present.

2006 EDC Goals

Lou Bachetti presented a list of goals for consideration to the members of the commission. After discussion of the goals, some modifications were made and subsequently finalized. The members of the commission were requested to review these goals and make a choice as to which goal or part of each goal they would be willing to champion. At the next meeting the group will assign the member(s) to each goal. Please see Attachment.

Chairman’s Report – Lou Bachetti

New Business

China City, a new take out establishment, is scheduled to open in January in the Somersville section of town.

Frankie’s Firehouse Restaurant is scheduled to open before 12/31/05 in the Somersville section of town

A grand reopening of the Somers Pharmacy was held on December 3, 2005. The event was well attended by the general public and town officials.

The joint meeting held on November 14, 2005 amongst the EDC, Planning and Zoning was determined to be extremely productive. This was the first time the three groups had met as a joint unit. The basic goal of opening the lines of communication concerning business development and sharing known information was thoroughly achieved. The receptiveness of continuing these meetings on a quarterly basis was approved by all and the next scheduled meeting is set to be held on March 27, 2006.

Adjournment

Motion to adjourn was made by Lou Bachetti seconded by Robert Schmidt and was unanimously approved. The meeting was officially adjourned at 8: 45 p. m.
