May 7, 2007

Selectmen’s Conference Room

Call to Order

 

Chairman Lou Bachetti called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m.

 

Attendance

 

Members present were Louis Bachetti, Robert Schmidt, Ron Elliott, Maura Gardiner and Richard Cheney. David Reed was absent.

 

Approval of Minutes

 

Motion by Richard Cheney and seconded by Maura Gardiner that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved without change.  The motion passed. All members in attendance voted in favor of the motion.

 

Correspondence

 

An issue concerning the placement of business signs was noted by chairman Bachetti and he asked all members to research the issue and offer their opinion as to the handling of this issue

Updates/ projects

 

Somersville Streetscape

 

Ron Elliott updated the group as to the status of this committee as David Reed; the Chairman for this committee was absent. The committee is meeting later this month to review a dry run of the presentation that will be made to the town on May 31, 2007. The group will convene in June for its final meeting to critique the results of the open town meeting and to finalize the final recommendation(s) to the Selectmen.

 

Somers Business Steering Committee

 

Ron Elliott updated the group concerning the activities of the Somers business steering committee and provided a brief recap of the “Business After Hours” meeting which was held on Monday April 2 and held at Cedar Knob.

Business Directory

 

Lou Bachetti provided the update concerning the status of the business directory and said that it would be distributed by the end of May. The directory is 70 pages thick and as the result of the successful promoting of advertising in the directory, the business directory fund will have an ending balance of approximately 6 thousand dollars.

 

Way finder Signs

 

Bob Schmidt provided the group with of a copy of the zoning requirements concerning signs and signage. Bob will be working with David Reed on getting STEAP monies for the signs. It was also requested that Ron Elliott solicit feedback from the Somers business steering committee concerning the way finder signs and to also get their input concerning business signs.

 

Status of the of Somersville Mill

 

Lou Bachetti reported that their have been 7 or 8 interested parties in developing the mill property. The town has opted to be the broker in the process and has decided not to take on the responsibility of developing the property itself.

 

Other Business

 

There were no issues of other business.

 

Adjournment

 

Motion to adjourn was made by Robert Schmidt seconded by Maura Gardener and was unanimously approved.  The meeting was officially adjourned at 7:45 p. m.
