LIBRARY BUILDING COMMITTEE
November 14, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 5:05 PM.
MEMBERS PRESENT; TIM Welch, Mike Gruber, Shirley Warner, Jim Conlin, Andy Phillips, Bob Socha and Irma Claman. Phil Rosenthal was absent.
Also present were Francine Aloisa, John Wilcox and Jeannette O’Connell of Tai Soo Kim.
Bob Socha moved to approve the minutes of October 17, 2007 and October 30, 2007. Seconded by Mike Gruber and approved unanimously.
The meter placed on the library’s well from November 5th to November 14th, 2007 indicated water usage of 200 gallons per day.
Discussion was had about the new library construction bonding package increasing the maximum grant from $500,000 to $1,000,000.
Shirley Warner moved that the Library Building Committee hold on to the current $500,000 grant as awarded and proceed at this time with the building plans as formulated. Seconded by Bob Socha and approved unanimously.
A copy of the memo received from Mary Louise Jensen of the Connecticut State Library in connection with this grant increase is attached hereto and made a part of the minutes.
Jeannette O’Connell presented the plan revisions and refinements that have been made to accomodate the mechanicals and the new storage area in the children’s room.
Andy Phillips left the meeting at 6:25 PM.
Jeannette O’Connell presented a timeline for new construction and renovation of the existing library space and discussed the process and schedule of selecting furniture, fabrics, etc. for the new library.
Irma Claman moved to pay Tai Soo Kim the sum of $39,750.00, as per bill dated November 1, 2007, for the following: fee for schematic design of $23,850.00 and 25% of design development of $15,900.00. Seconded by Bob Socha and approved unanimously.
Mike Gruber moved to pay Tai Soo Kim the sum of $4950.00, as per bill dated October 8, 2007, for geotechnical services as reported in the geotechnical investigation and evaluation. The bill covers the cost of $4500.00 payable to Michael Horton and $450.00 to Tai Soo Kim, as per contract agreement. Seconded by Irma Claman and approved unanimously.
Francine Aloisa reported that bids were received from 3 vendors for moving the children’s room to the auditorium in the town hall. The bids were for $6995, $9960 and $9220.
According to the landscape architect, the town planner suggested that an 824 referral from the first selectman to the planning commission will avoid the necessity of filing an application for a hearing before the planning commission. The submission for a December 6th hearing must be in by November 28, 2007.
