FIRE COMMISSION

REGULAR MEETING MINUTES

Thursday November 15, 2007

 

 

 

CALL TO ORDER:   Chairman Frank Lawlor called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.

 

·        Members Present: Frank Lawlor, Alice Van Tasel, Tony Bruno and Carl Rohrbach, Jr.

·        Others Present:     Fire Chief Bill Meier,  Deputy Fire Chief Frank Falcone

  

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

·        No minutes approved

 

FIRE CHIEF:

·        State bonding for the substations was approved but process on-hold by the Town due to other programs

·        Both Fire and Ambulance budgets are tight but appear on track

·        A road worthy mini bus, to be used as a special operations vehicle at emergency scenes, has been donated to the Department by the Enfield Fire Department.  

·        The Chief announced he would be stepping down after eight years. The SVFD will elect a new Fire Chief, subject to Commission approval, on December 10.

 

FIRE MARSHAL;

·        Re-advertising for the Fire Marshal position will begin again with the hope that the position can be filled by early 1st quarter 2008.

·        Few regular inspections are currently being done.  The 1st Selectman has been in contact with the State Fire Marshal about a per diem Fire Marshal or Inspector.

 

OTHER BUSINESS:

·        A motion was made by Mr. Bruno, seconded by Mr. Rohrbach and passed unanimously to approve the Chairman’s letter to the BoS and BoF outlining the critical need for a ladder truck given the design of much of the newer housing in Town as well as the anticipated development of the mill in Somersville.

 

ADJOURNMENT:

·        The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m. on a motion made by Mr. Bruno, seconded by Mr. Rohrbach and passed unanimously.  The next regular meeting is December 20, 2007 at 7 p.m. at the Somers Fire House.
