COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Meals on WheelsDavid Pinney was not present at this meeting.  It was suggested that perhaps his assistant can prepare the monthly report on MOW for Sue King for presentation to the Board in David’s absence.

Senior Lunches – Arlene Yarnes stated there would be no further lunches until February of next year.

Senior Citizens Club – Arlene Yarnes related that the holiday party will be held on the 19th.  Many donated gifts will be given out.  Reservations are at the maximum and there is a waiting list for this party.  Seventeen people came over the last weekend to help put up the Club Xmas trees – both inside and outdoors.  Outdoor lights will be on a timer so they can be lit at night for the public to see.

Communications – It is hoped that Barbara Flebotte will be interested in taking over the newsletter in the near future.  She has done a wonderful job on this endeavor in the past.

Jim will speak to Mr. Pinney regarding Barbara’s addition to the Board.

Senior Center Sign – Donna Doyker will be posting a holiday greeting as well as a winter message for the month of January.

School Liaison – Donna Doyker stated this will start up again after the Christmas break.

Senior Support Services – Pat Bachetti is currently working with five people and things have been going well with this program.

OLD BUSINESS:

MOWS   A form of recognition for the MOW drivers was on the selectmen’s agenda for a recent meeting.  Jim has not seen a copy of the minutes to know what the outcome of

this item was.  He will be talking with Dave Pinney about this issue.

Christmas Party Dec. 19th – Over 100 people have reserved a seat for this event and a waiting list is also in existence.

NEW BUSINESS:

Sue King – Meals on Wheels – The board members had an opportunity to meet Sue King and hear her comments regarding the MOW program.  Sue is very happy with the way things have been going.  She currently has 35 volunteer drivers and could always use more.  She has a good rapport with her people and is planning on doing her own form of recognition for these people.  We are still waiting to see how the Town will show their appreciation to the volunteers who use their time, cars and gas to help others.

Somers Code 5-17 – This code states that the board shall consist of nine members.  We currently have eight.  It is hoped that Barbara Flebotte will fill the ninth position.

Meeting Schedule for 2008 – Schedule for the new year was given to all for their information.  As of this time, there is no meeting scheduled for July and August.  This can be amended if the need arises.
