I.                  Call to Order:  Meeting was called to order 7:17pm

II.               Minutes of last meeting: Minutes of March 3, 2008 meeting were accepted with the following change: Part V, new business should note the addition of JJ Wassmuth’s name to members interested in research for the development and potential for new fields in town. JJ Wassmuth will also consult with Alicia Albert and Karen Murdoch on the Skate Board Park proposal.

III.           Audience: Mark Murdoch of the Somers Lacrosse Recreation League advised the commission that it is his opinion that the Firehouse field is not ready for practice or playing of games; the new grass is sparse and there is fear that the field may be harmed if the new grass is not allowed to grow without wear and tear. Jen Charette noted that she will contact Mike Provencher of Parks department to have him investigate the problem and to assess readiness of Pinney Road fields for play. Three boys and two girl’s lacrosse teams are currently slated to use the Firehouse field this spring.

IV.            Old Business: Nothing new to report regarding the Skate Board Park ad hoc committee; the skate board committee was scheduled to be on the selectmen’s meeting agenda for March 10, 2008, but no report from the selectmen has been communicated to the ad hoc committee; Karen Murdoch has tentatively scheduled a 4/22/08 meeting for the ad hoc committee.

V.               New Business: JJ Wassmuth will invite the new town engineer to the next Recreation Commission Meeting: Troy LaMontagne expressed concern that Somers does not have any town-owned water recreational facilities for public use.

VI.            Coordinator’s Report/Parks Update: The children’s library will begin moving to the Kibbe Fuller Recreation Center on April 28, 2008. Jen Charette was able to keep a modest number of programs running at the recreation center( tot basketball, baton, sportsmen club, Republican town committee, sewing club, fitness class, and girl scouts); the Friends of Tennis started practice last week;
