BOARD OF FINANCE

SPECIAL MEETING

TUESDAY, MAY 20, 2008

 

 

I.       CALL TO ORDER

Chairman Jams Persano called the special meeting to order at 8:20 pm.  Members present were Steve Krasinski, Tom Mazzoli, Mike Parker, George Warner and James Persano. 

 

II.    BOARD OF EDUCATION UPDATE – There was no update.

 

III. APPOINTMENT OF AUDITOR -

Motion by Tom Mazzoli, seconded by Mike Parker that in accordance with the Town Charter section 6‑2 the Board of Finance designates the firm of Carlin, Charron & Rosen, LLP of Glastonbury, CT to audit the books of the Town as required by the General Statutes 7-396 and 4-232.

The motion carried unanimously.

 

IV.  MIL RATE RESOLUTION

The results of the referendum on the budget were discussed.  The voting results were:

            In favor of the budget                462

            Not in favor of the budget          342

Advisory questions:

Town budget to low                   274

Town budget to high                  382

Education budget too low           309

Education budget too high          404

Motion by George Warner, seconded by Steve Krasinski that in accordance with the results of the Town-wide referendum on the budget for the fiscal year July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009 the Board of Finance proposes a tax rate of 21.91 mils be set on the Grand List of October 1, 2007 and shall be payable in two semi-annual installments -- July 1, 2008 and January 1, 2009 and that the laying of a tax of real estate and personal property amounting to $100.00 or less and motor vehicle of $250.00 or less shell be paid in full on the first installment; And, that any motor vehicle tax in the amount of $1.99 or less, may be waived, in accordance with the Connecticut State Statute 12-144c.

The motion carried unanimously.

 

V.     CORRESPONDENCE - None

 

VI.  BILLS, TRANSFERS, AND APPROPRIATIONS

Approval of the bills, transfers and appropriations was deferred to the next meeting.

 

VII.           ADJOURNMENT

A motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:35 p.m. was made by Tom Mazzoli and seconded by Steve Krasinski; the motion carried by unanimous vote.
