FIRE COMMISSION

REGULAR MEETING MINUTES

Thursday June 19, 2008

CALL TO ORDER: Tony Bruno called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

· Members Present: Alice Van Tasel, Tony Bruno and Carl Rohrbach

· Others Present: Fire Chief Ed Pagani

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

· Minutes from the May 15, 2008 meeting were approved unanimously after a motion by Mrs. Van Tasel and second by Fr. Bruno.

FIRE CHIEF:

· The Chief presented a draft of the policy requested by the Commission concerning the use of the Fire Marshal’s vehicle by volunteers when they attend meetings and training that benefit the Town and the Department

o Chief Pagani will modify his draft based on Commission comments for the next meeting.

· The FY 2007/2008 year end Fire Department budget deficit will be about $27K after account transfers primarily because of higher energy costs (electricity, heating oil and vehicle fuel) and unexpected major maintenance on the station’s boilers

· No Ambulance budget deficit is expected after account transfers. .

· Five members of the Fire Police have completed the new State certification course.

· A committee is being set up to define specs for the new pumper in the 2009 CIP.

FIRE MARSHAL:

· None

BUILDING ISSUES:

· The Chief received a PO from the First Selectman for Stearns Engineering to provide an engineering assessment of the current heating system and options available to remedy the current problems.

OTHER BUSINESS:

· None

ADJOURNMENT:

· The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m. on a motion made by Mrs. Van Tasel, seconded by Mr. Rohrbach and passed unanimously. The next regular meeting is July 16, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Somers Fire House.
