  Summer Day Camp

 

 

 

Where: Somers Recreation Park - Field Road  

When: June 28 through August 13th; 7 weeks

Children ages 5 - 12

8:30 AM to 2:30 PM

Fee: $65.00 per week/ add $10 for out of town

Camp enrollment: 40/week

The Somers Recreation Department is offering its very popular summer day camp again this summer. As in the past, there are a wide variety of activities during the camp sessions. Included in the camp activities: music, sports, dance, crafts, games and special events. We also have weekly special classes, special shows and field trips (field trips are required for campers who attend day camp on Friday, field trip day) The field trip cost is covered in the registration fee. Children are placed in groups according to age and ability.

Registration is on a first come first serve basis.

Registration begins on April 30th.  You may pick up a registration form at the Recreation Office before the first registration night, but no registrations will be accepted until April 30th. 

Out of town applicants will be able to register starting May 8th.

Archery Camp

Summer sessions

Fridays @ Field Road Park, lower field

Fee: $50

Session I: Beginning 6/18 (5 weeks)

Instructor: William Hall of the Sagittarian Archery Academy

Archery is a great activity for kids & adults.   It teaches patience, concentration and attention to detail. Archery is an individual sport where children can learn and have fun at their own pace, without any pressure from "the team". There are many forms of archery, which can be enjoyed throughout life.  Students will enjoy one hour of shooting each week, while also learning the history of archery and proper archery terminology. Classes are taught with an emphasis on safety and proper technique. Students will be able to qualify for Junior Olympic Archery Development awards.

There will also be a fall session beginning 9/18 (5 weeks) 4pm & 5pm

  Cressotti Baseball Camp

When:  July 5 – 9    9AM – 12PM

 

Where:  Town Hall Fields

Cost:  $90

Open to ages 7 – 12.

 

This is the 12th year of the Cressotti Baseball School. Our major emphasis is to provide fundamentals

 to all our participants through lectures, discussions and skill stations. Our school is based on the premise

that baseball instruction is fun.  You will probably learn and acquire baseball skills that will improve your game. 

We require all participants to bring their own equipment ( glove and bat). It is recommended that you bring a

snack and water bottle.

Bob Cressotti and his staff have been offering quality baseball training camps for all ages and skills,

for many years.  Skill development is made through in-depth work in fielding, throwing, hitting and base

running.  Games are monitored with an emphasis on a safe, fun experience.

  Field Hockey Camp

When: July 5th – July 9th    4:00-7:00 PM

Where: Somers School Complex  

Fee: $90 includes mouth guards and T-shirt

Equipment- $20 (stick, ball, shin guard, mouth guard)

4th Annual Field Hockey Camp

Directed by Elaine Kuczarski

 

Three levels are being offered (must be entering 4th grade in the fall of 2004 to participate)

Beginner- no playing experience.  Will introduce participants to the basic skills, passing and field positions. 

Emphasis will be placed on the individual.

Intermediate- Minimum 2 years playing experience required.  Will be a review of the basic skills, and then advanced instruction

will focus on specific plays and responsibilities for each position.

Advanced- minimum 3 years playing experience required.  The emphasis at this level will shift to the team rather than the individual.

  USA Tennis Camps

When:  August 11 – 15    9:30 AM12:30

 

Where:  Field Road Park Tennis Courts, Somers

 

Cost:  $70 (includes camp shirt)

 

This popular and fun tennis camp is open to all skill levels from beginner to advanced.  Students are broken into

 groups on different courts, with several instructors, based on age and skill level. Fun games are used to stimulate

 tennis skill development and instruction is given on grips, stroke techniques, rules and match play.  Whether your

child is just starting out or has played tennis before, this is a week of fun that will help them further their development

 in the lifetime sport of tennis!  Please call the Rec Office to pre-register for this course.

  Skateboard Camp

 

Plans are underway for a skateboard clinic on Saturdays this spring and

summer (dates to be determined).  Please contact the Recreation Office to

register and for more information @ 763-8231.     

Instructor: Chuck Carson

Come and learn all of the moves that will make you a skate boarding sensation. 

This program is geared for all skill levels from beginner to advanced.  The instructor will work

within the skill levels of the participants.  Safety and form will be emphasized.  Participants will

need a skate board, helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards.

  MLS Soccer Camp

 

5 week clinic (Sundays)

When: Beginning: April 25th (weather permitting)  

(make ups due to inclement weather will be added on at the end of the session)

Where: Somers High School Soccer Field

Fee: $75    Ages 5- 12+    Players will be grouped by age and will be given a 1 ˝ hr “clinic time”

after enrollment #’s are met.   Age groups: 5 – 6, 7 – 10 & 11 and up.

Min. per age group: 7   Max: 15     2- 15 coach/player ratio     

Give your soccer player a head start on the spring soccer season with the highly rated MLS program. 

This “mini” 5 week clinic is geared toward starting the season off right.   Special drills emphasize fun

while teaching fundamentals for the younger players, while review of skills and game savvy are stressed

for the older players.  T-shirts and camp balls are available for $12.

GIRLS BASKETBALL CAMP

Join the Springfield Spirit this July and “Play with the Pros”

When: July 12 - 16  8:15 – 3:15  Early drop off and later pick up available (add.Chg)

Where: Somers High School, 9th District Road, Somers

This week long camp features players from the area’s only professional women’s basketball team, area college

and professional staff. Girls age 6 -16 will be instructed in the fundamentals, strategy and overall game savvy

through warm-ups, drills, skill stations and games.  Campers will be grouped by age and ability.

Fee: $185/ per person   Discounts of $10 to $15pp available for 2 or more teammates or entire teams.

The Somers Recreation Department is offering its popular Pre-School camp again this summer! This program is run under the leadership of Ginny Tabb, director and head teacher of the Somers Cooperative Preschool and her staff.  There will be six, one week sessions; each week features a central theme. There will be daily arts & crafts, games, music, stories and lots of fun for all! Your child will need to bring a snack. There will be no field trips in this camp. (Children must be toilet trained).
