The Town Clerks office is available to assist
you in many different aspects. We distribute sporting, marriage, and dog
licenses; house birth, death, and marriage licenses for residents that were
residing within the town at the time of occurrence (with the exception of
out of state occurrences); recording information of all land records; voter
registration and services such as absentee ballots; passport services;
notary public services; house minutes and agendas for Town Boards and
Commissions; and general information.
Our fee schedule is as follows: (fees are
subject to change according to the State of Connecticut)
Sporting Licenses
Sporting licenses are valid from the date of
issuance to December 31 of the current year. To obtain a hunting or
combination license a previous license issued within the past five years or
a hunter safety course certificate must be presented.

Dog Licenses
Dog licenses are valid from the date of issuance
to June 30 of the following year. All dogs residing within the Town of
Somers must be licensed by 6 months of age. Licensing usually occurs within
the month of June. A valid rabies certificate and a certificate of
spay/neuter (if applicable) must be presented at the time of registration.

Marriage Licenses
Marriage licenses are available in our office
during normal business hours, no appointment needed. As of October 1, 2003,
the State of Connecticut no longer requires a premarital blood test and the
applicants may obtain a license within the town of occurrence or the town of
residency. To obtain a marriage license, both applicants must appear in our
office and a license will be completed. The fee for a marriage license is
$30.00. Marriage licenses are valid for 65 days from date of issuance.
Applicants planning to marry persons incarcerated in either Northern or
Osborn Correctional Facility must have the co-applicants information with
them to complete the license and further arrangements will be made with the
facility for us to meet with the co-applicant to sign the license. A list of
Justices of the Peace is available in our office.
Passports
Anyone living within the State of Connecticut
and Westchester County, New York may apply in our office for a United States
Passport. ALL applicants must appear in person. Applicants under the age of
16 must be accompanied by BOTH parents, if this is impossible please contact
our office for further instructions. To apply for a passport the following
documentation is required: two passport photos, a certified birth
certificate (which will be mailed with the application but returned with
your passport), and proof of identification. Applications are available in
our office or online at http://travel.state.gov. Passports will be mailed to
the applicant within six weeks from the time of application. Expedition
service is available.
Passport fees are as follows:
For a person under 16: $40.00 Payable by check/money order to US Dept of
State
For a person 16 and older: $55.00 Payable by check/money order to US Dept
of State
Execution fee of $30.00 per application payable to the Town of Somers
Expedition fee $60.00 per application plus $27.50 for postage per
application
All application fees are non-refundable
