Practices start Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 and run through Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008.
Practices are Monday and Thursdays 6:00pm to 8:00pm

Practices take place in the S.H.S. Wrestling Room School

Somers Youth Wrestling Club Tournament at the Somers High School is January 20, 2008
Wrestling will begin at 9am and continue until approx. 5pm.
Over 300 wrestlers from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont and New Hampshire have
competed in the past. The wrestlers range from K to 8th grade.
Admission $2.00 ; Age 12 and under Free

Somers Wrestlers at Eastern National Championships 2004

Three Somers wrestlers, Doug Vollaro (Midget UNL), Troy Zachary (Junior 78) and Tim Vollaro (Intermediate 146), competed in the 2004 Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association (MAWA) Eastern National Championship at Penn State University. The wrestlers earned spots in the elite sixteen man brackets by qualifying in the MAWA East Regional tournament in Quakertown, PA and MAWA New England District tournament in Windham, CT. A noteworthy accomplishment, as The Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association Scholastic Program attracts top competitors from 15 states to participate in the 29 districts tournaments held across Pennsylvania and neighboring states including New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Connecticut. This years tournament attracted over 12,000 wrestlers.

Doug Vollaro captured the Eastern National Championship in his age/weight group, Midget Unlimited, by posting a 3-0 tournament record that included defeating last year’s second place winner from Seaford, DE. Doug’s 2004 season record also included first place wins at the MAWA Eastern Regional and NE Districts qualifiers with a combined record of 5-0, the CT State Championship, and an undefeated record through the regular season in his Midget age/weight group. Also, earning sixth place in the Eastern Nationals was Tim Vollaro who wrestled in the Intermediate 146 lb. division.

Doug Vollaro is a fourth grade student at Somers Elementary School, and both Troy Zachary and Tim Vollaro are sixth and seventh grade students, respectively, at Mabelle B. Avery Middle School in Somers, CT. They wrestle with Coach Scott Zachary in the Somers Youth Wrestling program and with Coach Ralph Powers at Northeast Elite Wrestling Center in Enfield, CT. Commenting on their performances, Coach Zachary said,  “All three wrestlers had outstanding seasons this year. They remained focused, determined and dedicated in their training throughout the year. They have represented the Town of Somers, Somers Wrestling and Northeast Elite Wrestling with pride and great character. I’m extremely proud of all three of them and look forward to continue coaching them in the years to come.”
