Structure Fires

Somers volunteer Fire fighters responded to the Lord Somers
Center at the intersection of 190 & Rt. 83 around 8:45am on Saturday to find
smoke coming out of the roof rafters. The fire was under control within about 40
minutes and the building was saved. One business received fire and smoke damage,
and several others just smoke damage. No one was injured.

Firefighters (above) are waiting for the water lines as they hold the thermal
imaging camera which will help to locate the hot spots inside the building.

Fire Fighters start the clean up process and the overhaul of the fire damaged
space.

Equestrian Farm in Somers. The fire was quickly contained but the horse stalls
had already filled with smoke. About 40 horses were removed and brought into an
arena until they were cleared to return.

Firefighters continue to expose areas above the ceiling and behind the Fireplace
to put out any remaining "hot" areas.

Firefighters vent the roof on the exterior of the building, while other members
of the dept. open up the ceiling on the interior to attack the fire from both
sides.

The horses were removed from stables and brought to the arena until the smoke
had cleared from the barn.
