How the Expansion Would Improve the Library
· The expansion plan is designed to
accommodate the projected library needs for residents of the Town of
Somers for the next 20 years.
· Increase the square footage of the
building by an additional 90+%
· New construction would be toward the road
and behind the current building, and would not infringe on existing
school parking areas.
· Several small rooms for quiet study and
tutoring will be located throughout the building.
· Additional computers and updated network access
· Meeting space for 125 people will be
accessible after library hours.
· Most of the new construction would be an
expanded children’s area with room for toddlers and young readers.
· Window walls between adult and children’s
areas will define space and reduce noise.
· A program room for story hours and
children’s activities has been incorporated in the plan.
· An office for the Children’s Librarian
· A separate space is designated for teen
users, with computers and seating
· Increased storage space, additional rest
rooms, more efficient staff work areas, better lighting, safe drinking
water, and an improved heating system
