Join the PTA!  “Invest in your child’s future.”

What is the PTA?
PTA is the largest volunteer organization working exclusively to improve the education, health, safety and well being of all children and youth.

Who can join the PTA?
Anyone can join the PTA. Members include parents, teachers, administrators and community members. Don't forget to sign up yourself and your spouse!

Why should I join the PTA?
There are many reasons why people join the PTA. Some of the reasons include:
· Getting to know other parents, staff and community members through various meetings and programs.
· Keeping informed by obtaining valuable information on parenting, education, health and safety topics.
· Having a voice…promoting quality education while communicating with local and state decision-makers on issues and concerns facing today’s children.
· Showing your support for you child's education!

But I can't afford the time.
Even if you can't participate on a committee or make the meetings, your membership helps the organization in many ways. And there are many ad-hoc opportunities to lend a hand at an event when you can. Remember that both parents can and should join the PTA to maximize the membership.

How can I become involved?
There are many committees to volunteer for and your time commitment and level of involvement is determined by you.
All committees have Chairpersons who have planned this year's events. We need your help in making them successful! For a list of Committees, click here.

Save those Aluminum Tops/Tabs!

The Somers PTA committee, Somers Kids Care is collecting soda can/aluminum tops/tabs for the benefit of the Ronald McDonald House of Connecticut. This is an on-going, year round fundraiser. Currently there is a collection box in the SES Office. Also ask your friends, neighbors, relatives and co-workers to save them. If you have any questions contact Barbra O’Boyle 265-2463, oboylefamily@cox.net

Remember to Save your Boxtops

Somers PTA at Somers Elementary School is participating in the General Mills Boxtops for Education fundraising program. Clip boxtops logos from participating General Mills Boxtops and submit to Somers Elementary school or drop off at the Somers Public Library or at the Town Recycling Center ( white mailbox near the newspaper bin). Each Boxtop logo is worth $ .10 and is used to support PTA programs. We raised $2500 last school year from this program. Don't throw those boxtops logos away. They add up. Visit the Boxtops website at www.boxtops4education.com for a list of participating products and register as a booster club member and earn bonus boxtops for our school. If you shop online, start at the Boxtops website and our school will earn a % for purchases at qualifying stores. Website also has lots of ideas for parents (and others) as well as coupons. We need town support.
